DEGI is without a doubt Mongolia's best-known violin player/fiddler, for both the western and foreign community. The range of her repertoire is extraordinary: she'll play Brahms lullaby that'll rock your baby to sleep – or a tune that'll rock your baby's socks off! The concert you are about to see and hear on this DVD was generally rated as the best concert ever staged in Mongolia, which is unused to themed concerts that tell stories as well as presenting music. Western film buffs especially should keep an eye open for special visual references! DEGI was classically trained in Ulaanbaatar for 12 years and spent a further 3 years in the US with famed classical violinist Dylana Jenson; but she also plays with rock and jazz bands. DEGI deeply wants people to be aware that all music is just music, good and bad, to be loved by all. She believes that all music should be accessible to all. This concert shows that every genre can touch the heart and entertain young and old. She has paid her musical dues in discos and restaurants, but it is when the concert stage spotlight embraces her that she lights up the audience. She has already released two CDs which have sold well in the US, Japan and Korea, and has played concert tours in all three countries. DEGI was talent-spotted at age 7, when she entered music college for 12 years of endless practice. In the most difficult days in Mongolian 20 th century history, when there were shortages of everything, it seemed that she would end up one of Mongolia's kindergarten teachers, who at least assured of a midday meal. But as her talent emerged, it was plain she was destined for greater things. “I play folk melodies with a modern backing and arrangement on my Yamaha electric violin; and for the romantic western classical tunes, I go back to my beloved classical acoustic violin.” This concert was a smash hit; so put the DVD on, lay back in your favourite easy chair and be carried away by the sights and sounds of DEGI, her violin and her music.
